I have been picking up litter outside my house for many years to prevent it blowing into my garden. That’s how it started anyway…. To me the streets are blighted by this rubbish and it reflects on us all.
We have a lot of takeaway outlets on the Bromley Road and that’s a major source especially when people don’t take responsibility for their own waste.
Near the entrance of Foster Park by the school gates you will find a lot of discarded Nitrous Oxide canisters. I have collected over 50 in the last month alone.

Another major issue is fly-tipping in our streets, this is both illegal and antisocial. This costs our local authority one million pounds a year to clear up, cash they desperately need to spend elsewhere.
You can report fly-tipping (street issue) on the “Love Clean Streets” APP and help keep our streets clean.
There is advice on the Lewisham.gov.uk website if you witness fly-tipping.
This blog is not about ranting and raving on these issues. It’s to understand why people litter and to find solutions.
In my opinion all antisocial behaviour needs to be challenged otherwise it will continue.

When the pavement is full please use the bin
“Nitrous Oxide is a gas which has legitimate uses in industry, however is occasionally misused and is often referred to as laughing gas.
Nitrous Oxide is taken from small silver canisters, into balloons and inhaled. The gas can cause dizziness and therefore impair your judgement putting you at risk. When laughing gas is inhaled, it removes the oxygen from your lungs and replaces it with nitrous oxide, this can cause unconsciousness or death due to a lack of oxygen. Mixing alcohol with nitrous oxide can be fatal.”
