We had a fantastic turn out of Ravensbourne and Culverley Green Residents Association members at today’s community litter pick. Our thanks to the eleven volunteers including Simon, Julie, Kate, Geoff, Alison, Diana, Steve, Jeff, Jean, Eric, and Alan for helping to clean up our streets.
This month we covered parts of Crantock Road, Daneby Road, Callander Road, Bellingham Road, Thornsbeach Road, Penderry Rise and Forster Park.
Over 12 bags of litter were removed from our streets and taken to Churchfields recycling centre for disposal.
We need more people to get involved in litter picking, even if it’s just outside your own and your elderly neighbour’s homes, it will make a difference.
Reports from the team suggested seriously high levels of street rubbish in all areas which is blowing around into front gardens. As a regular litter picker in Thornsbeach Road during weekdays I find on average between 15-30 PPE facemasks which points to students from the local school being a major part of the problem.
The question was raised during the litter pick, what really happens to our Brown Bin garden and food waste?
“The food and garden waste collected within Lewisham is taken to Veolia in Southwark to be treated through a process called IVC (In-Vessel Composting). Composting is nature’s way of recycling and is one of the most environmentally friendly ways to treat waste. The waste is treated in different stages”

Frothy Coffee Hut
New Frothy Coffee Hut just opened every Saturday and Sunday at @forsterpark 8 am – 4:30 pm. I can recommend the cappuccino…
Join our next litter pick on Saturday 18th December at 10.30am meeting at the top Thornsbeach Road at the Forster Memorial Park entrance. Please bring your own protective gloves (and Santa hat). Litter pickers will be rewarded with coffee and mince pies.
You will not only be helping your community combatting litter, also meet other like-minded people, get some fresh air and some exercise. We provide all the training needed and equipment to borrow on the day.
See you at the next litter pick and join in the fun.
When the pavement is full please use the bin
